Note: Since this project was designed for my client's internal systems, I can't show screenshots of the real thing. The sample here is a mockup that represents the type of work I did, and contains no proprietary information or designs belonging to the client.
Challenge: After being hired to Sweetwater's IT department, I saw an opportunity to facilitate communication between leadership and staff. The company was growing rapidly, major projects were underway in our department, and a channel for transparent, anonymous feedback would be a huge strategic resource. How could I help department leadership stay responsive to our staff, maintain a culture of transparency, and make evidence-based decisions during a time of change?
Solution: Implement a pulse survey that collects quantitative and qualitative feedback, then gather and interpret the results in a report to department heads and team leads.
My Contributions:
Developed a strategy for survey content and cadence based on case studies on successes and failures in corporate internal communications.
Collected over 200 prospective survey questions and worked with leadership to narrow it down to 20.
Designed the survey in Formstack and distributed the survey via MailChimp.
Collected the results in Formstack and used the data to create an interactive record in Domo comparing results over time.
Reviewed open-ended feedback for broad trends and significant outliers.
Created a PDF report combining quantitative results and common themes among the open-ended feedback.
Outcome: IT department leadership uses the survey results to serve their engineers every way they can. In 2022, leadership added an IT testing space to the plans of our then under-construction expansion. This year, our onboarding and training team revamped its online portal, developed an inter-departmental shadowing program, and regularly adds ideas from the survey to its professional development workshops.
